Shanxi Science and Technology Museum, one of the ten landmarks in the city of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, was opened during the National Day in 2013 with a construction area of 30,000 m2. There are 3 permanent exhibition galleries named Space and Life, Machine and Power and Toward the Future. It has attracted 300,000 person times in these 4 months since its opening.

On February 14th, 2014, the Valentine’s Day, the Museum was crowded with visitors, mainly children. They had plenty of experiments there and observed the Horsehead Nebula and Rosette Nebula, respectively 1500-light year and 3000-light year away from us with the most advanced astronomical telescopes in North China.

The Committee for Astronomy of Shanxi Physics Society was in charge of the observation. It is introduced that there is a Horsehead Nebula near the remote Orion. It is a dark nebula shaped like a horse head. The Nebula can only be observed during October to the coming March without the shelter from clouds and lights. Also, there is a Rosette Nebula near the Monoceros and Orion, like a rose in its blossom. Meanwhile, the year of 2014 is a Horse year in the traditional saying of China. So, it’s a good time to observe the Nebulae and a good opportunity to popularize the astronomy knowledge to the public.
